招牌焗豬扒飯 Baked pork chop fried rice –  HK$50

I have a thing with baked pork chop rice, I can never say no to it. I don’t ever stop eating it or ever get bored of it. When I found ths place, I saw a picture of this dish and it looked so good with the fried egg, so couldn’t resist.  It has been the best baked pork chop rice I have ever head.

Need I to say the portion was big, as you can see on the picture below.  It is served in a big round plate, portion big enough for two people.  Two pieces of pork chops with real tomatoes (rare in HK), onions, carrots in the sauce, topped up with a fried egg.  This was delicious, fried rice underneath is nicely fried, dry and lots of eggs.  I hate when baked pork chop rice has not enough sauce, however the rice here has more sauce than ever, every spoon was juicy and succulent.  Taste best if you poke the egg so the yolk will run into the rice. Yummy! And hey, it’s only HK $50

, what a bargain!

叉燒腸粉 Char Siu Cheung Fun – HK$24

I personally didn’t like the cheung fun here, although there are freshly made.  The skin is too thick, and not enough char sui.  The char sui was also very bland.

I am also a huge fan of congee, it is healthy and good for digestion.  However finding a good congee isn’t easy in HK, as they are full of MSG, I find the congee here rather watery.  I didn’t have too much expectations here at first, but once I put my spoon in it, I couldn’t wait to dig into it.  Not just in a big bowl, but there were so many thousand eggs and salted pork.  They were very generous, there was either pork or the egg on my spoon with each spoonful I had. It was so damn tasty.    You can taste the chicken soup in the congee, bursting with flavour.  One tip, their congee at night taste much better than daytime, the taste is stronger and it’s thicker.

Ambience

From the outside it just looks like any other HK cafe (Cha Chan Teng), however once you step in you will realize the difference.  They have given some thoughts into the interior, with checkered wall and floor, and diner booth on the side, it amkes you think you are back in the 80s.  There are many tables in the restaurant, few times I have been they are full house, especially at dinner.

Service

Service really depends on the mood of the boss who stands by the counter.  She is the one that usually picks up phone orders, and she is the one you pay the bill to before you leave.  She must have been the rudest owner I have ever met, except from swearing at me, she has probably done all the rude thing to me.  Somehow sometimes she is really nice, sometimes she is the biggest b**ch ever.  Other staffs are efficient and helpful, but never too friendly.

Having bad service and a rude owner hasn’t stopped me from returning, as the food is extremely good for that price. Everytime I am craving for Baked Pork Chop Rice, I instantly want to come back here. When I don’t know what to have, I come back to here too.
