This came really different from how I imagined it to be.  This is off menu, but on their Special menu of the day. I imagined it was different pieces of cured meat with bread. Somehow it arrived as a piece of bread. With chorizo, ham inside a piece of bread. Nevertheless, it did taste good, the bread was moist and spongy with lots of meat filling. i spreaded lots of butter that came on the side on that thick piece of bread and it was heavenly.

SMALL PLATES

Cod Acorda (Cod salad) – 11 gbp

Cod Acorda

We ordered this not knowing what it was exactly, we saw ‘cod’and thought ýeah we are having that’.  I am glad we picked it now, it simply was a tomato salad with cod. It was delicious with the poached egg on top.  The tomatoes was fresh with onions, and it was heaven to pop the poached egg and let the yolk run through. making the salad so smooth and refreshing.

Asparagus and fennel migas – 8 gbp

We wasn’t too sure what thsi was but wanted more vegetables, so our waitress recommended this telling us it was a fried pancake type of thing at bottom. It was bit too oily, not my cup of tea for definitely

Prego is famous in Portugal, I always ordered it when I was in Lisbon. They are so damn good.  i was slightly disappointed with the one here. the meat was perfectly cooked, however it lacked seasoning and the bread itself wasnt warm enough and was really dry. although their mustard was really good. i would recommend trying if you miss having a prego. They also make the prego for anyone wanting a take out. their grill station is right outside the restaurant.

I have been waiting to try THIS for ages. Ever since Taberna Do Mercado has opened I have seen pictures of this dessert everywhere on instagram. How can i not want to try this, coming here was for THIS!
I wasn’t disappointed. it was so damn good, although my companion didn’t think so, I ended up K.O-ing this dessert all by myself and that is telling you something as this dessert specifically states it is for two person.   Olive oil Pao de lo is basically an eggy sponge cake with a layer of olive oil on top that has been baked. It is gooey, it looks undercooked and it looks not too appetizing but I can assure you, it taste so damn good. You will want to grab your spoon in again and again!
The egg sponge cake was very moist and sweet, but the layer of olive oil on top was salty, giving the biggest contrast, it should taste weird, however I thought it was very fun, tasting sweetness then tasting saltiness. I totally dig it!

PASTRIES

  • Pastel de nata – 2.5 gbp

Forgot to take a photo unfortunately. But it was so damn good, I promise.

Ambience & Interior

The table inside

The table inside

It isn’t a very big restaurant, only few tables inside and a few more on the outside space.  i love the simplicity of the restaurant.

Service

Everyone was very cheerful and importantly they were helpful. They asked us a few times if we need help with the menu and when we keep asking questions they were very eager to help. My friend does not eat any raw meat (the beef was medium cooked) so we asked them to cook a bit more of the beef after it was served to us and they did it with no dirty look or complaints. love the service here, warm and friendly!

Menu

The menu was pretty confusing, not meaning the layout, but all the Portuguese  names of the dishes with no description in English.  was very daunting to see a menu like this. Would be great if they have pictures or an english description.  nonetheless, our waitress was very kind toe xplain and give us recommendation, however some people might not like that.
