- Charlie & The Chocolate Factory Afternoon Tea x 1- £37.50
- Charlie & The Chocolate Factory Afternoon Tea with a Cocktail Charlie x 2 – £48.00
Description of Cocktail Charlie: Dalmore whisky mixed with Grand Marnier Cherry, chocolate bitters, grapefruit juice and cherry syrup. Topped with Champagne.
No wonder why i was tipsy from the cocktail, it was very strong. Now I know why from mixing whisky and champagne. The cocktail came in a glass tea pot as you can see from the photos. The red cocktail was bubbling away in the teapot with smoke coming out everywhere, it looked so fun. Not only it was fun, but it tasted so fruity, no wonder why I got tipsy so fat, I couldn’t stop drinking it.
The savoury selection came first on a rectangle plate. They were all made delicately, and ws delicious. They weren’t just sandwiches like the usual afternoon tea, there were a big varieties. From sandwiches to quiche. I loved all of them, but my favourites were the Roast beef and grain mustard mayonnaise sandwich, mayonnaise and Egg mayonnaise with watercress and the Leek and Stilton quiche. They were so good I even got a refill on them the second round. Yes, they do refills (yay), however do not go too greedy and fill up your tummy as the sweet food yet to come is worth all those calories too. All the sandwiches were fresh and soft in a reasonably size.
My friend who is pregnant is not allowed to have raw food, so no beef and cheese for her. The waiter was very nice and made her some custom savoury food. She got the cucumber sandwich instead. Great service!
When the afternoon tea rack arrived for the sweet selection, I was totally shock. There was so much food, everything came in four, even though there were three of us. We thought it was really sweet of them to give us four of each just so that the rack would look much nicer and sure it did.
The tea looked so photogenic, just couldn’t wait to dig into it, however i was 3/4 way to being full from the delicious savoury food i had earlier. The sweet food were gorgeous. The homemade candy floss was very unique, different from ones I have had before. The floss was soft and fluffy and tasted like the sweet, werther’s original. Rhubarb and vanilla doughnut was ever so cute being in a perfect ball shape, it wasn’t too sweet and tasted slightly sour because of the rhubarb, I didn’t finish it as it was very filling but I loved how it wasn’t oily. One of my favourite was the Golden chocolate egg filled with vanilla cheesecake and mango. To me it seems like Cadbury creme egg except it isn’t as sweet. the vanilla cheesecake filling was marvelous, smooth and creamy, I only tried a bit of the chocolate but it was good chocolate. I loved the mini size bottle of Chocolate caramel milk, it was a good treat from eating so much solid food, it was like slurping little milk bottle but chocolate caramel, even better!
The scones were a big disappointment, nothing special compared to the tea set itself. It was rather dry and bland. However the Cocoa bean financier was totally the opposite, I haven’t had such good financier for so long. It was moist, buttery and soft. can’t get any better
My Mango Noir tea was also really good, I am glad I chose that, was very refreshing from being stuffed with food.
Ambience & Interior
We were having our tea in the restaurant, Indigo at the mezzanine floor. More privacy than The Lounge downstairs at the ground floor. We had a two people table though which obviously did not fit us. The restaurant is small, and I can’t say it looks any special. We were later moved down to The Lounge downstairs which was less comfortable, lot more busier but also very comfy with sofas and coffee tables. However they do get very busy after 4pm.
- Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. He offered custom sandwiches to my friend who is pregnant who cannot eat raw food. Poured the cocktail slowly so we can take pictures, he also helped to take pictures of us
- We were acknowledged straight away
- They prepared a small birthday cake with a candle for us
- I found the manager slightly pushy and not as friendly. He told us our table was booked for two hours so he has kindly asked the manager down at the bar if we could finish off our tea there, so we can go downstairs. We happily agreed, however he kept repeating himself and made sure we know he went out of his way to get us down there. When he asked which food needs to be moved downstairs, we said all, then he kept asking which food, he gave me the impression he didn’t want to move the food downstairs. On the way downstairs, he again stopped us and explained to us how our table was needed back again. No big deal, but he just made the experience very weird.
Overall the service was good, just like what you expect from a five star hotel in London.

I would love to come back. this was probably one of the best tea I have had so far, especially in london. It was out of my expectations, usually these quirky theme teas never taste as good, but this really showed me there are hopes. Few years ago I have visited another quirky tea theme, Mad Hatter’s Afternoon Tea at The Sanderson, it was quirky and different from the traditional tea, however the food was a let down.
The savoury and sweet selection served here was creative and delicious. definitely recommend this tea to everyone!
