Located in a small alleyway on First street in Sai Ying Pun, Electric Ave has been a great ht in the area.  I have seen many good reviews on Openrice and Tripadvisor, so I made it a goal this year to give it  a try.

I chose the Classic Aussie Beef Burger Set – with Stilton cheese and Fruit Pig’s black pudding after being told by the owner, Andy that they do black pudding.  I couldn’t resist that on my burger of course and it’s The Fruit Pig Company’s black pudding, who would say no?!  Got a choice of Cheddar or Stilton cheese and I did not hesitate to choose the Stilton cheese.  The buns are from Bread Elements, which means you can expect them to be soft and fluffy.  My burger came with bacon, gherkins, cheese and lettuce, however i did not get any caramelized onions like other people stated they did.  I regret choosing Stilton as the taste was too strong, could hardly taste the beef, however the goodness of having black pudding in your burger patty.  My burger was cooked to medium and it was not my choice however it was beautifully grilled.  Only thing I can fault about the burgers here are the patties was falling apart as soon as I was holding it.  When i bite into it, it was crumbling apart.  The lunch sets came with the cheese and Skinny Rosemary Fries which I wasn’t too keen on.  Don’t get me wrong here, they are still better than your ordinary fries, however they weren’t seasoned enough, I could hardly taste the rosemary in it.  The Holy Grail was the Bone Marrow Chips which Andy raved on about, he told us the whole LONG ASS process which I have half forgotten.  These thick cut fries are made all by hand, from peeling to cutting are all made by hands.  I remember Andy saying these potatoes are soaked in PH9 water to make them more alkaline and to strip down the starch in them, then freezing them in the freezer.  After taking it out, they would fry it then mixed in with the bone marrow hence why there is a shiny texture to the fries.  All fries comes with home made ketchup which was super delicious as it is not overly sweet and you feel super safe for indulging in them

This little burger joint is in an alleyway, you may see it when you are walking on First street.  I love the colourful grafetti on the outside which you cannot miss, the colour he chose to use are red, yellow and green, even the furniture inside are these three colours.  There are only 4-5 tables inside and there are no tables and seating allowed outside unfortunately.  There is an open kitchen at the back of the shop and be cautious you’re going to end up smelling like those Bone Marrow Fries.

I really enjoyed my burger lunch here at Electric Ave, I had no expectations before coming and Andy was amazing.  We were greeted by him right away and even lured us in by telling us their burgers are made from grass fed cows.  Andy was totally informative about the menu, and you can tell he has great passion about his food.  He told us his history, his plans for future expansions, how he can make better food etc.  I really liked their burgers as it was juicy and super soft buns, however the beef patties aren’t the best I am afraid to say but the Bone Marrow Fries are the best in town, much better than anywhere I have had in Hong Kong.  I can’t wait till when Andy opens up a chippie in HK.  Lunch time is a great time to visit as there are less people and lunch set incudes the cheese and the Skinny Rosemary Fries.  However if you upgrade to the Bone Marrow Chips it is an extra 50 hkd (very steep, but worth it I am telling you).  There is also a pale ale promotion, where you buy one get one for free!

Would I go back again? Yes
