Opened by the Gordon Ramsay who opened his first restaurant at only 31 years old, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay achieved 3 mitchelin star.. He has now 29 restaurants around the world and achieved 14 mitchelin stars in total. I have never visited any of Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant, so I was very much anticipating for this. I have been a fan of his TV shows, like Hell’s Kitchen, which has been very entertaining, I must say, he is a good actor, so I am sceptical with his food.
Bread Street Kitchen & Bar is Gordon’s first restaurant in Asia, and he has partnered with the well establish Dining Concepts. The restaurant is casual dining, with price range for mains at $150-300, very reasonable indeed.

Bread basket – complimentary
We were given two different types of bread, they weren’t warm when they came but they were fresh indeed served with a soft butter. Would be even better if they served different types of butter.
Honey glazed beef short ribs with pomelos, scallions, sesame seeds – 198 hkd
This has been the dish the whole of Hong Kong has been raving continuously about. I had a huge expectations for this, it has definitely lived up to its expectations. The ribs were cripsy on the outside, tender and juicy on the outside. The ribs were honey glazed with sesame sprinkled on top. It couldn’t have been better, only if it came in a larger portion.
Traditional shepherd’s pie with braised lamb, potato puree, brioche garlic crumbs – 208 hkd
Cannot visit a British restaurant/pub without having a traditional shepherd’s pie! I couldn’t wait to order this let alone tasting it! I was so anxious to taste if it will taste as good as the ones in UK! The pie arrived on its plate bubbling hot, freshly baked. The top was baked til crispy with melted cheese, the inside was so hot it burnt my lips. The dish was rich and dense, I loved every spoon of it. However, it may be too rich for some people who are not used to this.
Slow roasted Dingley Deli pork belly, spiced apple puree. apple relish – 198 hkd
Don’t ever tell anyone you have visited Bread Street without tasting their slow roast pork belly. It is their signature dish, obviously the must try. I had high expectations and for me, it was a miss. The pork belly was perfectly roasted, the crackling was so crispy, the meat was tender and moist. The gravy was perfectly done, being in a thick consistency with a spiced apple puree on the side. Despite all that, it was over seasoned, it was salty to me. I did ask the waiter if this was ‘normal’ and was told this is normal. I was disappointed, and makes me wonder if it is this salty?
Roasted Ocean Trout, autumn vegetables, chorizo cream – 218 hkd
After tasting the salty pork belly, and having it returned, we decided to order another main dish. We chose the Roasted Ocean Trout that was recommended by the waiter. I must admit I am not a huge fish lover but this was good enough for me. The fish was perfectly cooked, however the skin was not crispy. The chorizo cream was absolutely fabulous, it was creamy and thick, with chorizo aromatic. Even the vegetables tasted so good dipped into the cream sauce.
Hand Cut Fries – 68 hkd
For a side, the fries were pricey, for 68 hkd I think there were only 15 of these fat fries. They were crunchy as hell, fat and chunky, just like chips in UK. Although I would have appreciated them more if they were seasoned slightly more.

Bread street is a more casual restaurant with black and white tiled flooring, mix of vintage and modern interior and furnitures. Lots of sofa seating which is best for ladies and families. Despite located at the heart of LKF, in LKF tower, there were more family diners than I have expected. There are also seats by the bar area, there are approximately around 80-90 seats available in the restaurant.
I was impressed by the attentiveness of their service. We took our time in choosing what to order, and every 10 second I see them walking pass to see if we were ready. Even so, when we ordered he took his time to explain and recommend the signature dishes to us. He even talked about Gordon Ramsay’s visit. When we found our pork belly way too salty, another waiter recommended us the trout, the pork belly did not appear to be on our bill (please do not try to take advantage of this) I would say the service overall was above average, would have been perfect if they had teeny weeny bit more smile on their face, and more welcoming at the entrance.

Bread Street won my heart, and honestly I was bit surprised the quality of the food was so good. The setting was laid back and comfortable, perfect for group of friends or families. Price was reasonable, service was above average, and what’s better you can make reservation online too!
