The Green Tea Latte wasn’t as milky as I expected it to be, it was rich in green tea flavour making it slightly on the bitter side. It is unsweetened and less milky than other Green tea latte in Sydney.  However, the Latte was beautifully done.  Tap water was available in a bottle on every table which was attentive and accessible.

Perfect Yolk

I was trying to choose between the Pork Belly dish or the Corned beef dish, ended up choosing the pork belly.  The appearance of this dish didn’t impress me, the vegetable pickles especially the carrots looked unfresh.  The pork belly was very fat, hardly any lean meat, and I wasn’t going to eat so much unhealthy fat meat for my breakfast.  However, the pork belly was beautifully marinaded and seasoned despite looking bland.  I must mention the slow cooked 63 degree eggs, it was perfectly cooked. If you like poached eggs, or runny yolks, you will love this. i have never had such fabulous egg anywhere else.  Even when I cut into the egg yolk, the yolk isn’t too runny that it floods the plate. It remains in its shape so I can dip my pork into it.  Despite the excellent slow cooked egg, the dish just didn’t work for me.  I needed some bread or carbs to go with the egg, and the sweet potato puree did not go too well with the fatty pork belly.

The Pandan Buttermilk Pancakes is really popular on Instagram and I am sure you know why.  It is picture perfect by being bright green and lots of colourful fruits decorating it.  I have to confess I came just for these Pandan Pancakes. I wasn’t too pleased about the pancakes being out of shape. They weren’t round, they were irregular and looked more like a triangle with round corners.
Despite it being imperfect, they were fluffy and soft.  They weren’t as strong on the pandan flavouring, however it worked really well with salted coconut sugar syrup. Can’t deny it is the best dish that meal.

Like all cafes/coffee shop in Sydney, Blaq Piq is minimalist, with wooden tables and high ceiling.   It is slightly more spacious than other cafes, there are also couple of tables and seatings on the outside if you prefer sitting outside.  There are also bench tables facing the window, great if you are coming to dine solo.

Blaq Piq was on top of my list for over two months.  Each time I went in the weekends, there was a huge queue, so long that I didn’t even make it onto the queue for brunch.  I finally got the chance to experience the Pandan buttermilk pancakes on a weekday, after all thye anticipation I had for it, it did not disappoint, however the other dish and drinks didn’t quite impress me. I do like Blaq Piq, but there are room for improvements.
