There are a few Thai boat noodles restaurants popping up in Hong Kong in 2017, the most well known one, Samsen located in Wan Chai has been expat’s usual hangout place.  666 Boat Noodles opened up in November 2017 in Sai Ying Pun, specializing in Thai boat noodles for a very reasonable price.

Recommendation

  • Double balls (beef & pork balls) noodles

Verdict

Pork Noodles – 7/10
Double balls (beef & pork balls) noodles – 8/10
Chicken Thigh Wrap in Pandan Leaf – 8/10

Both the noodles had the thick dark broth which looked really authentic except there were no herbs in it and the noodles have already absorbed half of the broth.  You have the options of choosing a range of noodles from pad thai to yellow noodles which isn’t too authentic, I stuck with the pad thai noodles anyway. The broth was sweet and intense, I added the chili flakes and the chili vinegar which made it even more tastier.  I preferred the beef and pork balls noodle more than the pork noodles although the pork noodles was recommended on the menu, the mixed balls were juicy and bouncy, delicious indeed.  The noodles were good but not mindblowing, I dare to say it was just as good as the boat noodles at Samsen which is double the price.  The noodles here are only 20-25 hkd, it’s small portion but the ones I have had in Thailand are just as small.  For this standard on HK Islands, it is a bargain, although it did not make it onto my best restaurant’s list, I would still be returning for some cheap and yummy noodles.

Would I go back again? Yes
