There were only three choices of ramen to choose from and we both chose miso soup flavour ramen.  The bowl of ramen was huge for 700 jpy, I was amazed on how big the portion was.  Lots of beansprouts on the bottom and four thick pieces of char siew which was delicious.  The char siew was slightly cold as it was grilled obviously in the morning but it was delicious, nicely marinated.  Noodles were medium hard, thick and al dente.  The soup was rich and dense, I felt really bad for not finishing off my ramen.

Miso soup ramen – 8/10

赤のれん was one of the first ramen shop I came across while researching but the opening hours was rather bizarre – Noon to 14:00 and 21:00 to midnight. So after shopping, we decided to try the place out.  It is loacted at a residential area, which was really hard to find, we thought we were invading in someone’s house.  There are minimal parking space outside and if you are coming by public transport will be super hard as it is not near any train station.

I loved the whole atmosphere here, there were no tourist, just locals sitting here and slurping away.  We seated ourselves at the end, there was only one person working, the chef, who is the owner.  He kindly ask us what we wanted, and we ordered.  He spoke to us in Japanese and we didn’t understand, he then later went to pour us some iced water which we later found out you are supposed to do  this yourselves.  As we did not understand Japanese, he kindly poured us some, so thoughtful of him.

The ramen was the old traditional ramen you can only taste at a local joint like this one.  The ramen isn’t mindblowing but it’s as good as it gets from a small family run restaurant.  The ramen chef was at an old age, but it obviously doesn’t affect his cooking skill.  I love this whole old ramen shop at a residential area, and being served by a very Japanese man! I love him and the whole experience!

Would I go back again? Yes
