We ordered the famous speciality from here, the chicken is roasted inside a huge clay oven outside the restaurant.  It isn’t my first time having this type of clay oven chicken so I was prepared for the dirty work ahead.  The chicken comes as a whole, not sliced, cut or anything, not even a knife is provided.  A pair of cotton gloves and plastic gloves are provided. First you will need to put on the thick cotton gloves which will protect you from the heat of the chicken, then the plastic gloves will go on top to protect you from the oil and mess.  Then you are ready to tear the chicken apart, it is quite difficult if you have never cut or tear a chicken apart, but you will get the hang of it.  You can even shred it, it does not matter if the presentation is bad, as you will eat it no matter what. It also comes with the seasoning –   salt and pepper dip and also the roasting juices in a small bowl.

The chicken did not come steaming hot, it was only warm.  I am skeptical if it really came out from the clay oven or maybe the air conditioner was on way too high.  If only it was fresh and hot, the skin would be crispy too, the meat was slightly dry. Despite that, the chicken was well seasoned, strong taste of the cumin and wood smoke.  The  portion is fairly big, the chicken between two people was more than enough.as we only ordered one bowl of rice to go with the chicken.

The vegetables are all home grown nearby which is a must to order on the menu.  The vegetables were so green and fresh, only downfall was it was way too oily,  There were so much oil, we had to cleanse it with water mid way through our meal.

Soup was free to all diners and it was self service.  So at the back of the restaurant there is a self-service corner for soup, bowls and chopsticks.  I wasn’t a huge fan of the soup as there was too much pepper to it but with lots of beansprouts.

甕窯雞 is one of the biggest outlet compared to all the other chicken restaurants on the same street, so it lured me in despite the lady at our hotel recommended me to another down the street.  I really do regret not listening to her as the chicken here did not live up to the expectations.
